Flame Robin

The 2019–2020 Australian bushfire season was one of the most devastating in the country’s recorded history, driven in large part by the escalating effects of climate change. Created in collaboration with writer Clare Best, this choral work takes the form of a poignant roll call of bird species in New South Wales now endangered or nearing extinction as a result of the fires. Among them is the critically endangered Regent Honeyeater, a species now known to be “forgetting its song” as its population dwindles. The below recording is by acclaimed vocal ensemble, EXAUDI.
