New piece: 'Flame Robin' performed by EXAUDI

Last year's Australian bush fire crisis had a devastating impact on wildlife and was yet another example of humanity's painful impact upon nature. I wrote this choral piece in the wake of the fires, a collaboration with writer Clare Best.

The piece lists all of the bird species of New South Wales which are either endangered or on the verge of extinction because of the fires. I was reminded of the piece today because I read that one of the birds in the piece, the critically rare Regent Honeyeater, has ‘forgotten its song’ because it’s become so threatened. Will we ever learn?

You can hear the piece on my Listen page of watch it on Vimeo.
